Please do not worry, we had one child with an injury and no ambulance available so helicopter was sent for by ambulance control. This was not life threatening. Parent was with the child on the helicopter.

Christmas Play
Hi Everyone,
Just a few notes about the Christmas performances. They are scheduled for:
Wednesday 12.12.12 at 1.30pm
Thursday 13.12.12 at 9.30am
Thursday 13.12.12 at 6.00pm
Hopefully you all have your tickets by now. If not, please return your slip to the office as soon as possible.
For the evening performance, children should arrive through the main entrance at 5.45pm and go directly to classrooms to get ready.
After the performance, children from Reception, Y1 and Y2 can be collected from their classrooms. Children in Y3 to Y6 can be collected in the rear foyer.
In case of Ofsted...
As most of you know, we are expecting an Ofsted visit in the near future. If they decide to visit us next week, we will move the Wednesday 1.30pm and Thursday 9.30am performances to after school times on another day. We understand that this may interfere with your plans, but we have good reason. As you know, staff and children have worked extemely hard towards making Peterhouse an outstanding school and our next Ofsted visit is our chance to have all the hard work recognised. Hopefully Ofsted will agree with our self evaluation of Outstanding, but only if we have the chance to show them as many outstanding lessons as possible. This can only happen if we move the performances. We hope you understand.

Bluey's Blog
Hi there everyone at Peterhouse. I have been looking at your attendance and I'm very pleased to say you are doing really well. Keep it up. Lots of children are on line to get 100%certificates at the end of term. One class, year 4 , have done brilliantly with an overall attendance of 97% for the term so far. They are having a special treat of a craft a afternoon with their parents. I hope they enjoy it. I might pop in myself to have a go at working with the guest who is running the session. At the end of the term we will be sending home everyone's attendance herringbone which will tell you your attendance figure for the term. The letters will be colour coded to tell you how well you have done. Remember that blue is good as its just the colour of my feathers!!!!! Will fly in to visit you before the end of term to hand out certificates and the special 100% arm bands. Bye for now. Will be back with more news soon.

Hello children. I had a wonderful time at the celebration assembly on Friday 26th October when my friend Mr Justintime came to visit. We gave out 107 certificates to all the children who had been in school every day this half term. Well done to all of them and keep it up. Remember that we will start looking for children who get 100% attendance during November and December. There will be a special reward (our Attendance arm band) if you can get 100% for the whole term. Have a good holiday and stay well and safe. From Bluey.

o
We had a special visitor in school this week in our Wednesday assembly. I invited my friend Mr JUSTINTIME to come in and talk to the children about their attendance. He explained that all the children needed to have an attendance level of 95%. If they had a level of 100% that would be fantastic. He also talked to the boys and girls about making sure that some one at home rings up if they are off school as it is important that we know. The children were very pleased to see Mr Justintime who has been on his holidays. He will be in school again very soon to hand out some certificates to children who have been in school all the time. He might even be on the playground to see who is on time. Make sure you are here on time to get a sticker from him. Lots of best wishes from BLUEY .

Significant changes ahead for the future of Peterhouse
Tuesday 18th September 2012
Dear Parents/Carers,Most of you will now know me very well, having been your headteacher for four years. You will also, I hope, have realised that I am fully committed to Peterhouse and to ensuring the very best quality of education for your children. I am sure that you will also be aware that we have, consistently over the last two years, achieved the very best results for all age groups. in fact this year we are the top performing school in Norfolk.
Many of you will have realised that education in the UK is undergoing a radical shake-up under the Coalition Government which, in many cases will change schools in ways that challenge both teachers and parents understanding of what a school actually is. Traditional ways of thinking about how schools deliver education will be significantly challenged and ultimately changed without any meaningful consultation.
I am sure you will agree with me that we have actually reached a stage where our ethos and values match what you, the parents, want of your school and what the children actually love. Being what is called a Community School we are very closely linked with the Local Authority and hence government change. In addition to this the ethos and values of a Community school can easily be changed, especially in turbulent times. The current Government is moving rapidly to convert schools to Academies which are directly under Department of Education control. As a school the Governors have looked closely at this option but being part of a chain of schools linked to businesses means that our ethos and values would change dramatically. Hence becoming an academy at this time is not an option we would wish to pursue.
We do, however, need to find a mechanism to protect what you have in the form of Peterhouse and its ethos/values. We need to do this in order to make sure all children in our community have access to quality education in a format you like and support. To do this we have two options - remain as we are and leave ourselves open to the possibility of enforced change, or convert to a school that is protected from external influence. The Governors have decided that we must act to protect what we have and the only way to do this is to convert our school to a Voluntary Aided school, sponsored by the Church of England.
I can imagine some of you raising an eyebrow or two when the Church is mentioned but I wish to assure you that as far as the Church is concerned we already do more than most Church schools in terms of our links with Church and community and our ethos. Being a Church school does not mean that religion is 'forced' upon children. You will see nothing change in terms of our curriculum, ethos or how we teach Religious Education. (Teaching of RE is compulsory in all schools and Peterhouse follows the Norfolk Agreed Syllabus).
The only changes which are significant are that there are more Governors representing the community and the Governors are the employers of the staff, not the Local Authority. This means no change for you or the children.
Being a Church sponsored school means that we have two bodies who oversee our activities, the Church who would have the majority say and the Local Authority. Should we ever need to become an academy, we would be able to become a Church sponsored academy, thereby retaining our independence from the Department of Education, but more importantly making sure that our ethos and values do not change. In addition to this, in a period of reducing funding for schools, we are able to bid to the Church for extra money and as a school which is recognised as having a high level of professional skills, we would be able to support other less well developed schools. This increases our teacher expertise and meets the Governments requirements to share expertise across schools.
I am sharing all this information with you as the elected members at Norfolk County Council have agreed to this change but there must also be a consultation exercise with the school community. Shortly you will receive this consultation document but I feel it is important for you to understand the reasons for this change so that you can support us.
The timeline for this change would mean the school would become a Church school on 1st April 2013. Peterhouse Primary School would close and Peterhouse VA CE Primary School would open. We would take the opportunity to re-badge at that time and to introduce a new uniform, as we all feel that the red uniform does not match with our ethos, red being related to anger. We have designed a new badge which I have fixed to the top of this page (missing in blog version). The new uniform will be explained later but we appreciate uniforms cost parents considerable amounts of money so we will initially subsidise an allocation of uniform in the first year as a new school.
I hope that you will support us in this new venture and understand that the changes we intend to make are for the benefit of your child and our community. If anyone would like to talk to me about this you are welcome to make a Wednesday morning appointment. There will also be a public presentation later in the term.
Regards
Martin Scott

Celebration Assembly
A great first assembly today. Mr Scott announced that we'd be having a Heroes Day on Friday 21st September.
We can all dress as our favourite hero - whether it be a super hero or real life hero. We'll collect £1 from each person who's dressed up and send it to Help for Heroes who provide support for wounded, injured and sick soldiers.

Peterhouse students begin school on Thursday 6th September at 8.40am.
For those of you who are new this year, enter the school via the playground gate on Magdalen Square or the one on Peterhouse Avenue. Students in Years 1 to 6 line up on the playground when the bell rings at 8.35am and teachers collect them from there. Children in Nursery and Reception go straight to their classrooms.
At the end of the day (or session, in the case of Nursery), students in Nursery, Reception, Years 1 and 2 are collected from their classroom doors. Those in Years 3 to 6 exit school through the rear foyer, to be met in the playground.

Paralympics - someone we know!
Do you recognise this lady? It's Mel Clarke who visited Peterhouse in 2011 to talk to us about competing for Team GB in archery. We have pics of her and the children on the wall in the rear foyer. Let's all support her during the Paralympics!
This picture is from the new Sainsbury's ad with other members of Team GB and David Beckham.

Sports Day
Our reserve sports day went ahead yesterday. As it was part of Peterhouse Primary School's Olympic games, countries (classes) competed against each other for medals. Athletes ran heats, then competed in finals for 100 metre sprints and relays. India (y1) even managed a few obstacle races before we were rained out.
Medals were awarded at the Closing Ceremony in the afternoon. The Dance Club performed a number they'd created especially for the occasion and Mary-Lou sang God Save the Queen. A great day was had by all.
